can’t figure out how to be an “author” on the blog….help!

  I feel that a lot of fiction authors do that. For me, writing is putting my reality into fiction.

I started writing short stories about cats when I was 7 years old. I’ve been writing ever since. I won a young author’s contest, had some poetry published, had an agent but when I couldn’t pay, suddenly my novel was less interesting to her…
It’s just that creative force inside me that I can’t define or explain but it insists that I MUST write even if it’s a discombobulated rant. Cheap therapy, actually. And I love connecting with others in the blogging community so writing is my link to both my creative side and my social side.

    Unfortunately, no, the only thing that didn’t get wiped out when my family’s home flooded was the ‘book’ that won me the young author’s contest. It is around here somewhere.
    I am proudest of it because the teacher told me absolutely NOT to submit it because the topic of suicidal ideation/attempt was too dark a subject for 8th graders. I did not change a thing.
    It won.
    Even in 1988 adults recognized that kids have real emotions that are dark and serious and when they don’t get help they need or support at home, giving up seems to be the answer.
    I was up against 1200 other student novels in the state. It would have been too easy to make it sunshine and rainbows. I stayed true to myself even at such a young age. I treasure my own principles and stubbornness for that even now.
    Seems the more I am told to change who I am to ‘fit in’, the more I rebel against their idea of normalcy and do my own thing.
